I have been thinking about the journey to self awareness and spiritual growth a lot recently. I am convinced that self development and personal growth is not unlike learning an entirely different language.
When we start on a journey of self discovery we find that there is an entirely new way of seeing, of speaking, of being - but mostly of communicating. A new language entirely for most! For some of us we could speak a little, picking up important phrases from here and there. While some of us had never even heard this language much less speak anything at all. My belief - anyone can learn this language. The language is of love!
Once you have been exposed to this language, some want to totally immerse themselves in it (me for example). Go to conferences where this is the only language they speak, on retreats where the culture and language is explored, to meetings where others speak this language, read everything ever written about this new language - it's origins, seek out who speaks it fluently - talk with them, seek out others who speak it - Basically.....just can't get enough of it.
After a while we pick up phrases, can speak a little, understand a little more, feel different. It is a safe place to be in the space with people who can speak this language. We understand their limitations, challenge our own limitations, try, learn, do....then something happens.
We realise that for the most part, the people in our lives can only speak one language fluently. The one we have been speaking for our lifetimes. a conditioned way of speaking, which I may say in it's own right is perfect as it is. Yet, suddenly we who were once monolingual are bilingual.
In the beginning when try to speak the other language, others may look at us strangely. "What did you just say"? "You sound different". Some really don't understand it. And for some, they wont and that is not for us to be concerned with and most importantly NOT TO JUDGE. It is certainly NOT an exclusive language. It is not an exclusive group of people who can speak it. It is free flowing and evolving. It is a language that provides an opportunity to connect. To become aware. To embrace life and living it fully.
Others when hearing this new (which is in fact infinite, nothing new to the universe), some may say "wow, that sounds amazing, I want to learn too. I want to speak it too, live it too. They may recognise they may learn something great. They might realise that they can BE something great!
This is what I know to be true: If we are not continuing to speak the language with others, or write the language or read the language - soon we loose our fluency. We need to surround ourselves with support to maintain our fluency. We must seek out those who speak the language and even variations of it to learn more. To converse more. To see more. To FEEL more. To BE more.
Read. Great spiritual leaders have written amazing books. Talk. Meet with those who you know are masters of the language. Hear their voice. Feel their energy. Stay connected with the language. Go to the places where the language is spoken and nothing else. Seek it out. Connect with it. I believe those who resist the new language will be inspired by your passion for it. Will be encouraged by the type of people who can also speak it. I believe that the change of dialogue starts with one person willing to learn and then to teach! You are learning. Are you teaching?
